2 Day K'gari (Fraser Island) Tour Itinerary

 

Day 1: Depart Rainbow Beach

We begin with a quick morning briefing at Freedom Hostels Rainbow Beach at 7:00 am before driving approx 10 minutes to the barge (ferry) and boarding for our 10-minute barge crossing. Once we have arrived on the world's largest sand island, we traverse the eastern beach - K'gari's (Fraser Island) own highway with speed limits! The adventure begins as we drive to the famous Lake McKenzie, arguably the most popular and picturesque highlight of K'gari (Fraser Island). Here, we stop for lunch and quality time to swim and relax in the lake's amazingly clear waters. Around 3:00 pm, we drive up the beach to our campsite for an early dinner, well-deserved drinks, and plenty of fun!

Day 2: Return to Rainbow Beach

Arise in the morning for a quick breakfast before we begin our second day on K'gari (Fraser Island)! Our first point of call depends on tidal conditions, but the plan is to head up to Indian Head, K'gari's (Fraser Island) highest point. From here, you may be lucky enough to see whales and sharks in the ocean before we travel to Champagne Pools for a dip. After the pools, we head to Eli Creek, a beautifully clear creek perfect for another relaxing swim. We continue to Maheno Shipwreck for a few photo opportunities and a short history lesson covering this famous K'gari (Fraser Island) icon. Our alternate route if Indian Heads and Champagne Pools prove inaccessible is to drive to the beginning of the Lake Wabby walk where we stride through the dunes to a tropical paradise. After the day's activities, it's time to begin our drive down the beach heading back to the barge. Once arrived on the mainland, we return the cars to the 4WD shed where you'll have time to unpack and quickly clean your vehicle. 

We return to Freedom Rainbow Beach between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
